John W. (“Cliff”) Moorman
Cliff began his practice in New York City working in the corporate and tax departments of Ropes & Gray, LLP, before leaving to pursue a career in the renewables industry as an in house attorney at Apex Clean Energy. While at Apex, Cliff’s practice covered every aspect of legal work involved in developing renewable energy projects. Before leaving Apex to found JWM Law at the end of 2019, Cliff’s practice had developed a focus on power purchase agreements and project acquisitions, and he continues that focus today, helping clients negotiate the execution of offtake agreements representing over 3,000 MW across the PJM, MISO, SPP and ERCOT regions. He also continues to advise clients on various other legal matters and contracts arising in the development of solar, wind and storage projects , including development financing agreements, equipment procurement contracts, contractor service agreements, and real property agreements.
In addition to his work in the renewables industry, Cliff also represents start-up companies and venture capital and angel investor clients, frequently in the ESG space, drawing upon his experience working in house as general corporate counsel and his diligence of various early-stage businesses.
Cliff is licensed in New York and Virginia, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce (2004) and a Juris Doctorate from William & Mary Law School (2007).
